The Musical Body Autumn Retreat @The Singing Shack
“An empowered rich experience that alters your world for the better. Knowing and working with Charlotte has allowed me to grow and deepen my personal connection with not just my music but myself as a human...The Musical Body gets your creative juices flowing." Caitlin Brown
In the spirit of play and co-creation I invite you to join us in a nourishing and delectable weekend connecting to the spaces between life and music and cultivating vitality through improvised singing.
Come and stay overnight at our family farm Jimjim Homestead and spend two days playing and dancing with sound in The Singing Shack.
"A bird does not sing because it has an answer,
it sings because it has a song."
- Maya Angelou

You might be curious about your body-voice-music, you might have doubts/or a strong belief about whether or not you are a singer or creative person. You may sing only in the shower and fear you are tone-deaf or be convinced you can't sing. You might be a professional musician interested to develop, discover and connect with wonder, flow, play and creativity or to improve on particular skills in song-writing, musicality, performance and/or voice. And/or you may be a therapist, teacher, carer, parent, free spirit, explorer or person interested to explore your creative body-voice.
“Charlotte’s work is essential for the beginner through to the professional musician…..it has equipped me with tools around presence, belief and healing through my music” Liana Pearl
~~MORE ABOUT THE SINGING SHACK~~
The Singing Shack has a resident emu "Emoo" and she loves to be near us and call to us in her deep 'bomp bomp'. It is a very special place for me, because my mum Penny (with her own two hands) converted it from a shed in 2017 to be an artist's retreat/home for me and The Musical Body. She did it as a surprise during a very difficult time in my life and health: where my artistic and facilitation practices were truly life-savers. It is well insulated, has gorgeous views and has some (clean!) carpet we dumpster-dived for at 'Carpet-Call' in Kyneton! It got its name partly because of the work I offer, but also, because at the first retreat, the wind would create musical notes through the cracks in the door (which are since covered up!)
~~MORE ABOUT THE ACCOMMODATION AT 'THE FARM' (Next door to The Singing Shack)~~
Since around 1991, we would come up to the farm every weekend, and I indulged merrily in experimenting with my voice and with the environment around. The farm-house is surrounded by old trees and volcanic rock, bird song and interesting sounds that weaved in and through me in wonder and song. The past few years of retreats, we have all enjoyed sharing bunk rooms and camping at my parents home for two nights. Penny and Hilary are local leaders in the Newham Landcare community revegetation and conservation group and have really enjoyed sharing a meal, some music and meeting The Musical Body community. Over the weekend, you will be immersed in the fruits of many years' labour of love in the abundant Vegetable Garden, my Magical 18th B'day Fairy Garden, and The Folly Rose garden....also, the fruits of theirs and the communities extensive work to create a Koala Passageway between the Cobaw and Macedon Ranges and cultivate awareness and positive action for revegetation and conservation in the area. It is such a joy for me to share the warmth, cheekiness, generosity and beauty of my parents: along with their inspiring life-passion which all infiltrate merrily into the delightfulness of this time together.
“Delightfully fun, deeply touching and highly recommended” Bec Apost, 2016
“I have witnessed Charlotte create with everyone from babies to wise folk and everything in between… age is no barrier – everyone has a voice… An empowered rich experience that alters your world for the better. “ Caitlin Brown
