Join the fabulous Footscray Gyspy Orchestra as they head to Queenscliff with their special guest artists to explore the intoxicating rhythms and melodies of the Mediterranean, Balkans and beyond...
Guests artists include:
- Linsey Pollak (the incomparable! Leading Macedonian music)
- Phil Carroll (Arabic music, accordion+)
- Matt Stonehouse (master percussionist, teaching frame drum and darabukka. Matt has a limited number of frame drums to share, but please bring anything you can bang so you can learn the techniques)
- Jasna Dolic (singing Sevdah songs from Bosnia/Herzegovina)
- Briohny Kennedy (Belly Dancing and a second session where she'll be giving us her specialty "Fat chance Belly Dance")
- Alana Hunt (violin) and Sofia Chapman (accordion/vocals) will be there as well with another selection of tunes from Romania and elsewhere
These experienced instructors will guide and inspire everyone from absolute beginners to seasoned musicians.
Weekend Stay & Play package includes accommodation plus all workshops and events (use this one if you're happy to share a room) The venue is Whitehall Guesthouse in Queenscliff.
This puts you on site for the weekend (two nights - Friday and Saturday) and there are several good spaces for jamming or chin-wagging.
The accom is very comfortable and all linen, sheets and towels are provided. Most rooms have a queen and a single bed, bathrooms are shared.
There's a communal kitchen, rather large, with some fridges and stoves. So you can bring your own food if you wish. You're right near the town centre so if you don't like your own cooking, other options are close by.
BOOKINGS for accom and a ticket to ALL of the events, including Linsey's new show: "Iris Viewfinder's Herstory of the Clarinet."
The FgO will be playing on the Saturday night for the international dance - not your standard bush dance by any chalk, but a selection of line and circle dances from around the world.
Weekend Music Experience ticket:
Same as above except that you don't get the accommodation. You may have to bring a sleeping bag or choose another place in town, or the Bellarine that has beds on offer.
BOOKINGS for music only ticket
Iris Viewfinders Herstory of the Clarinet: Linsey Pollak
We get a sneak peek. It'll be a preview as he's doing an official launch in Queensland later in September. If you buy one of the two above tickets, this show is included. No need to hit this link. It'll be on at the RSL hall. If you know people in Queensland who'll be at his launch, you can call them and do spoilers. Always fun.
BOOKINGS: just for Linsey's new show.
Community dance
BOOKINGS: This'll be at the RSL hall too.
