We are delighted to announce that Simon Faulkner, in partnership with CMVic, will be giving an introductory one day workshops in drum-circle facilitation (DCF training) to community music leaders, health and education professionals, and community development workers.
Simon is a specialist provider of music therapy training, focusing on the use of rhythmic music (drums & percussion) combined with reflective discussions to promote social and emotional health. He works across Australia and internationally and is the author of the book ‘Rhythm to Recovery – Music for Social and Emotional Development. Simon is also the representative of Village Music Circles Drum-Circle Facilitation and has been running community drum-circles promoting community building for the past fifteen years across Australia, including drum-circle facilitator training programs.
It is our intention to follow this up with a series of open community drum-circles (2 hour events) in both Melbourne and different regional locations, bringing people together under the direction of trained facilitators to play music together. The aim would be to create 4 to 6 community drum-circles across the state over the next 12 months or so. We would hope that trained facilitators from the above workshop would make a commitment to attend at least one regional community event.
More details about Simon and the Rhythm2Recovery approach can be found on his website here.
Cost: The normal price for these one day workshops is $250, but we are able to offer it for only $15 (less 20% discount for CMVic members) to cover venue and tea/coffee costs. The workshop is suitable for beginners upwards.
