    › Choirleader’s Weekend, Seacroft Estate, MAY 20-22

Location: Seacroft Estate, 4990 Great Ocean Rd, Sugarloaf  3234  , Sugarloaf - Open in Google Maps -

Please see below for a fuller description of this weekend, the first time it has been done in Australia, it has been a fascinating and illuminating adventure in earlier versions. the venue is the wonderful Seacroft Estate, on the Great Ocean Road, about 30km past Lorne. The weekend runs from Friday 4pm to Sunday 4pm. There WOULD be space for some people who are just there to sing, because we’re using the participants as kind of guinea pigs.

Choirleaders' Weekend, Seacroft Estate, May 20-22, 2020
$470/$390 includes all meals and accomodation (twin share, with other options available)

Stephen Taberner is offering a weekend workshop which will explore the grand themes and gnarly minutiae of choirleading. We will be working within the beautiful confines of the Seacroft Estate, which, alongside it's lovely surroundings and stunning main hall, provides excellent accomodation…and we’ll get top quality meals supplied for the whole weekend.

    Stephen says:

"Particular areas of interest will be the finer points of arranging for mixed voices, how to get a great sound from a choir, and what it means to conduct. We will also consider the mysteries of group leadership and the ways in which the human emotiono-musico landscape is curiously contagious and susceptible to many influences, both good and bad. The extended format will enable us to explore these areas with much greater expansiveness than previously possible...Previous experience has shown that the most satisfying methodology is to actually do things, rather than talk about them, so there will be a strong emphasis on THAT. Accordingly, it will be possible for there to be a limited number of 'guinea pigs' who are not necessarily aspiring towards leadership. Please state this clearly in your booking."

Stephen is the artisitc director of the Spooky Men’s Chorale. He has been leading choirs and workshops for 26 years in Australia, New Zealand and the UK, amongst other places. He is largely self taught, but has been inspired by mentoring from Linda Wise (Pantheatre), Jo Estill, Ysaye Marie Barnwell (Sweet Honey In The Rock), Reinhardt Flatischler and Bobby McFerrin.
