Learn about contemporary techniques for accompanying folk tunes, singer-songwriters, jamming with friends and expanding your creativity. While these workshops are geared towards cellists, other string players are welcome too.
Topics covered may include: Shuffling, chopping, ghost notes, chord shapes, chord substitutions, secondary dominants, bluegrass bass pizzicato, feeling comfy in a jam, and tune/song arranging. We may dip into improvisation or learn a few tunes by ear, to put our accompaniment skills into practice.

$150 for all four sessions
Monique Clare is an award-winning folk cellist and singer-songwriter, with a passion for education. After graduating from the Queensland Conservatorium, she spent a summer in the USA studying folk traditions and contemporary cello techniques. Teaching and performing has taken her as far as Afghanistan, for a residency as part of The String Contingent, and many folk music camps and festivals back home in Australia. She's performed with Darol Anger, Kate Miller-Heidke, and recently has been touring internationally as part of The Maes, including shows at Orkney Folk Festival and Telluride Bluegrass Festival. She loves collecting experiences to share with her students, building the contemporary and folk string community, and getting as many cellists as possible happily addicted to playing folk.
