    22/Feb/2019

Thinking of singing? Come and join Camberwell Chorale! We are a non-auditioned community choir, which has been delighting audiences with the presentatttion of quality choral music for 74 years, each performance in association with the skilled musicians of the Camerata Orchastra and some of Melbourne’s most talented soloists. Our musical director for the last 44 years, Douglas Heywood OAM, guides our musical success with careful preparation for our performances which are a delight for all involved.

Camberwell Chorale will celebrate its 75th year in 2019 with a fabulous concert series:

Sunday 28th April – Two French Masters, Faure and Saint-Saens at Hawthorn Arts Centre at 2.30pm.

In 1877 Saint-Saëns travelled to Switzerland to write a requiem at the request of his lifelong friend Albert Libon. The Messe de Requiem was completed in eight days and was performed under the composer’s direction in 1878.  Ten years later his pupil Gabriel Fauré composed his Requiem, possibly in response to the death of his father in 1885. Both works are included in this programme as well as Fauré’s famous choral work Cantique de Jean Racine.

Sunday 21st July, “100 YEARS OF BROADWAY AND ALL THAT JAZZ” at the HAWTHORN ARTS CENTRE, 2.30 PM.

The history of Broadway from the music of Tin Pan Alley to contemporary Broadway Musicals is captured in a choral medley by the American composer and arranger, Mac Huff.  The other artists performing on the day are the internationally acclaimed Jazz musicians Joe Ruberto and Fem Belling.

SUNDAY 20TH OCTOBER:  VERDI’S REQUIEM at the HAWTHORN ARTS CENTRE, 2.30 PM.

Few choral works have captured the public imagination as has Verdi’s Requiem. The uncomplicated directness of his style, his soaring, lyrical melodies which lie perfectly for the human voice, the scintillating orchestration and, most significantly, the work’s extraordinary dramatic and emotional intensity, all contribute to the Requiem’s status as one of the great icons of Western music.

SATURDAY 16TH NOVEMBER: HANDEL’S MESSIAH at the HAWTHORN ARTS CENTRE, 6.30 PM - A Twilight Performance.

SUNDAY 24TH NOVEMBER: HANDEL’S MESSIAH at ST. ANDREW'S BRIGHTON, 2.00 PM.  (TBC)

SUNDAY 8TH DECEMBER: NINE LESSON CAROL SERVICE at the CAMBERWELL BAPTIST CHURCH, 7.00 PM.

Our door is always open to all who wish to experience the challenge and thrill of learning and performing quality choral music. All voice parts are very welcome. Our 2019 rehearsals will be held each Tuesday evening, 7.30pm at Camberwell Baptist Church, cnr. Riversdale Road and Wills Street, Camberwell. We’d be delighted to have you join us.
