  • › Speak Percussion: December Performance Program

Speak Percussion are currently accepting applications from Victorian secondary students for our upcoming December Performance Program, running from December 6-12.

Our December program is based on London-based Australian composer Matthew Shlomowitz's 'Letter Pieces', a series of short works combining physical actions and sound. Students will work with Matthew and Speak Percussion to compose and workshop their own letter pieces, before filming their new works with a professional videographer at the end of the program.

This program will be held partially online and partially in-person at the Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre. Students are asked to apply in pairs, with a family member or a fellow student from their school. To ensure the COVIDSafe nature of this activity, each pair will be allocated their own workshop and filming sessions - eliminating cross-school contact and providing students with highly personalised guidance and mentorship.

Participation in this program is *free* for Victorian secondary students. Students with an interest in instrumental performance (any instrument), composition, drama and/or dance are strongly encouraged to apply.

If any of your students would be interested in this project, you can find a flyer with the full schedule and further information at The deadline for applications is 5pm Wednesday 2 December, and students can sign up at

If you'd like any further information, please don't hesitate to be in touch. Kind regards, Kaylie Melville, Artistic Associate & Sounds Unheard Coordinator, Speak Percussion. +61 421 922 261.
