At this time of the year, there are not so many performances by community groups as they are starting off their year’s rehearsals for drama, comedy, band and choral events. However, the late summer and autumn weather is the preferred time for many festivals as you see by this issue – and professional performers work all through the year to provide top entertainment.
CHORISTERS are invited to see the website www.chorusoz.com.au for an event on 8 and 9 June 2019 which might interest you if you like musically exciting adventure and singing in a big event in Sydney. It is a performance of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with 1,000 voices, at the Sydney Opera House.
CONGRATULATIONS to Anne Littlechild, of Dramus Theatre, who has been awarded Citizen of the Year for Hamilton and the Southern Grampians Shire at a ceremony in Hamilton on Australia Day.
NON-MUSICAL EVENTS. Although Quick Notes main function is to make music news known, I decide to include other events if I feel they will interest some members. Non-musical things are published if space permits. Sometimes QN emails show all of these on 5 pages, whereas the mailed copies are pruned to 4 pages for printing and posting. If you don’t have email yourself you are welcome to give me a friend’s email address from where you could get the whole issue including other things of interest. That will reach you days earlier.
SUBS. “ON SPECIAL” Because our subscription year runs from 1st July to 30th June, any new member joining now will, for their $12, receive issues from now till June/July 2020. Do you know any musician or music lover (classical, jazz or folk mainly), who would like to get Quick Notes? It could also be given as a gift to a friend if you’d like to surprise someone.
TEAM OF PIANISTS This group has announced its 2019 program of gorgeous piano recitals, often with other instruments too, in some of the loveliest National Trust homes in Melbourne as well as in Barwon Park mansion. If you are interested in knowing the dates and programs you can see www.teamofpianists.com.au, or ring me if you have no internet access. There are 9 Sunday concerts between 28th April and 27th October.
“SINGING THE CLASSICS” This is another popular event which has announced its 2019 program. Dates and music are as follows: April 7-“Carmina Burana”; July 7-Gilbert & Sullivan music; October 6th, “CantataMemoria” a new Karl Jenkins work. Full details of these Geelong fun workshops will be in later Quick Notes.
With musical cheers to all from June Roberts, President/Secretary, 28 Campbell St, Portland 3305 Tel: (03) 5523 1054. Alice Roberts portlandmusicclub1990@gmail.com
