  • › OPPORTUNITY - Volunteer Musician/Music Group Leader Inbox

    23/May/2022

Sacred Heart Mission is looking for a confident volunteer musician who can facilitate a small group music session weekly on Wednesday mornings in our Engagement Hub in Grey Street, St. Kilda.

Our clients attend to pick up a take-away meal and access various supports, including groups such as the music group.

Pre-Covid, the group was very popular and there was much enthusiastic singing and strumming. A song book of favourite songs has been collated by group participants, volunteers and staff over the years. The group was sometimes held outdoors. This encouraged participation from people who would not otherwise join in formal groups.

In light of current COVID risks, we are keen to run the group outside, weather permitting. We have access to the church next door if we need to move the group indoors due to inclement weather.

We have a basic set of musical instruments – including some acoustic guitars, percussion instruments and an electric guitar. Some of our clients prefer to bring their own guitars.

The age group is around 30’s  – 50’s and older, mostly male.

This opportunity could suit someone who is a retired musician or has a background in music education, music therapy or community music.

We are hoping to find a confident volunteer musician/group leader with a non-judgemental attitude, an appreciation of our diverse community and a sense of humour.

We ask for a commitment for a minimum of 6 months and a willingness to obtain a police clearance and working with children check.

All enquiries can be directed to Liu Ponomarew, Coordinator The Wellness Place 0438 603 244 or Email: lponomarew@sacredheartmission.org
